Does listen local want the rights to my music? That's messed up
We agree. Your art is yours. By entering this contest you are not giving up the rights to your music or the video, just allowing us a license to use the video... we know "unlimited rights" sounds invasive. We see ourselves in the public trust, and we would never use it in any way other one that would promote you, this contest or local music. We just needed to protect ourselves from craziness in case someone comes off the top rails because we posted or used a part of a video that wasn't described in a more conservative approach.
WHo are you guys? And why are you doing this?
The short answer: we're a very small organization that showcases, supports and promotes local singer songwriters. The moon landing in 1969 inspired the world to look to the stars and believe, for a brief moment in history, in something greater and take a moment to honor the human spirit. Through the art of your music, we hope to inspire in our own way and honor the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing.
Why Huntsville? What's that got to do with space?
It's a question that makes us laugh around here, but we get it. We're the most technological city many people have never connected with. US News and World Report ranked Huntsville one of the top 10 places to live and Liveability placed us at #2 tech hotspot to name a few other folks who think we're cool. We are the birthplace of NASA, the engineering know-how behind the space program and where the Department of Defense, SpaceX and Blue Origin still turns for missile, rocket, hypersonic, directed energy, aviation and space technology; and our musical history is as rich as the ground we walk on. Basically, Huntsville is a really dope place and you should plan to come check it out sometime soon!
$25? Why are you charging me to enter?
You may have noticed the aggressive prize package and taking on an international contest isn't cheap! For a very small organization that wanted to do something very big for music and to celebrate an incredible human achievement, we had to balance the checkbook. If we happen to recoup our costs, and make it into the black, it will be go to help grow our grassroots organization dedicating to promoting, showcasing and supporting singer-songwriters. And while some may disagree, a fee for entering a professional contest whether its focused around writing, visual arts, poetry or songwriting is a pretty standard and accepted practice.
Basing the contest on youtube likes? What's that about?
Yes - for six total submissions. As stated above, this is a celebratory anniversary that we want to use to inspire - and educate - those who have an interest around anything related with space exploration. We're leaning on the magic of social media and self promotion to help propel this contest to great heights - with the help of your social following. So, the top 6 submissions with the highest amount of likes will proceed to the judges table. However, two submissions will be forwarded to the final round regardless of likes based on talent... (the criteria laid out in the official rules). The final round will be judged by a growing panel of celebrity judges.
More importantly, in line with our mission statement, the online portion of this contest gives artists a platform and a reason to promote themselves while sharing their craft and talents with the world. No great song will go unnoticed!
